Illinois bill for midwife licenses nears vote

Illinois lawmakers are considering some hot-button measures this week. The state House of Representatives has voted down a medical-marijuana bill and approved an expansion of rights for same-sex couples. Some lawmakers also want to allow nationally certified midwives to attend home births in Illinois—attend them, that is, without supervision by a physician or an advanced nurse. WBEZ’s Chip Mitchell is following the measure’s progress and joins host Melba Lara in studio Tuesday. Her first question is what the legislation would do.
