The Blizzard of 2011 looks to be over in Northwest Indiana. The Deep Freeze of 2011 is just beginning.

The region got anywhere from a foot of snow to well over two feet, depending upon which side of Lake Michigan you happen to live. Schools and government agencies that shut Wednesday are expected to remain closed Thursday as well. A snow emergency remains in effect for Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.

Even though the snowfall is tapering off, drifting snow is causing problems at ramps along Interstate 80/94 and Interstate 65. But officials say there are few accidents and stalled vehicles on those routes.

Much further south in Indianapolis, ice is the problem.

Indiana state employees got a snow day Tuesday, but they had no relief Wednesday because Governor Mitch Daniels ordered state offices to reopen.

However, government workers report little work actually got done, and few visitors arrived at the State House and government annex buildings in downtown Indianapolis.
