More than 500 people, including Mayor Richard Daley, gathered in a tent on Chicago's South Side yesterday to celebrate a new $31 million community center.

Neighbors and leaders say the Gary Comer Youth Center is much more than a state-of-the-art building.

They say it symbolizes a neighborhood working to revitalize itself.

And it all started with one man who wanted to help a school.
