Aiming to bring teens together across racial, gang, and socio-economic lines, Louder Than A Bomb provides friendly competition that emphasizes self-expression and community through poetry, oral story-telling, and hip-hop spoken word. The festival is an Olympic-style poetry competition, featuring 70 teams and 650 students in 2011. Now in its third year, the college slam ends after three preliminary bouts, with the top college slammers poised to become tomorrow’s educators and spoken word leaders. But as with all LTAB events, the college slam is about coming together to celebrate the art of the spoken word. The points are not the point.
Recorded Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Columbia College Chicago.
