Katharine Conley reviews a brief history of the surrealist object and its ghostly dimensions as she focuses on Joseph Cornell's haunting boxes on view in the Modern Wing.

Katharine Conley is a Professor of French and Comparative Literature and Associate Dean of the Faculty for the Arts and Humanities at Dartmouth College. She focuses on Surrealism, women in Surrealism, poetry, 20th-century fiction by women, Quebec women writers, feminist and avant-garde theories of writing.
