September 11th 2001 was supposed to be Kathleen McChesney's last day on the job, topped off by a reception in her honor. That didn't happen. McChesney was the special agent in charge of the FBI in Chicago. As one of the top federal officials in the Chicago area, McChesney had to map out a local response to the unprecedented attacks. We now know that there weren't any attacks here, but McChesney says, on that day, no one knew what to expect.
