Activists Criticize the Burge Report

The group said yesterday (Tuesday) that special prosecutors passed up opportunities to charge former Police Commander Jon Burge, and others in his command.

BOWMAN: He lied under oath, denying that there was torture in Area 2 - John Burge himself - within the statute of limitations, he wasn't prosecuted for it, there isn't an explanation in this report as to why that wasn't done, and it's a disgrace.
The special prosecutor's report last summer found that numerous African American men were likely tortured in police custody,
But that report concluded it was too late to prosecute offenders.
Bowman says there's still time to bring perjury charges against Burge and others.
The activists are calling for U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald to look into the torture allegations.
