The Chicago Public Library is making system updates in a move toward modernizing its services, but there may be a few bumps along the way.

Audio books and archival photos are some of the newer features on the Chicago Public Library Web site. Since 2006 the library has been inching toward modernization and will continue rolling out new programs over the next couple of years.

On March 2, the library will undergo a major computer system overhaul. Patrons won't be able access the website or check anything out, but a day or two later, users can search for items on a revamped online catalog.

Other expected updates include wider language services and an online item reservation feature. The full improvement plan is scheduled to be completed by 2010.
