Chicago reaches record high gas prices for February

February 28, 2011

Average gas prices for the country are at a record high for this month. Chicago is averaging prices at $3.59 a gallon.

AAA spokeswoman Beth Mosher says prices jumped up $0.23 in just the last week.

"It is a very, very big jump. Prices are very, very high for this time of year. Oil prices are very, very high for this time of year. Because of the unrest that's going on in Libya which is why we're seeing these higher prices, we expect gas prices to continue to rise," she said.

Mosher says oil is usually $70 to $80 a barrel this time of year, but she says prices are now hovering around $100 a barrel.
