Sun-Times Media Group chairman and Mesirow Financial CEO Jim Tyree has died after a battle with stomach cancer. Tyree and other investors bought the struggling Sun-Times group when analysts thought it was on the brink of collapse in 2009.
Mesirow Financial president Richard Price says Tyree died Wednesday afternoon at a Chicago hospital after an unexpected complication from stomach cancer. Tyree was 53.
Tyree announced in October that he had stomach cancer and would undergo chemotherapy.
He was chairman and CEO of Chicago-based Mesirow since 1994 and had been with the company for more than three decades.
Tyree is survived by his wife and three children.
