Teaching a Blind Bird New Tricks
June 9, 2006
Last fall, staff at the Brookfield Zoo noticed a bird was missing his perch when he tried to land.
They sent the double-crested cormorant, a large water bird, to an animal hospital and learned he'd gone blind.
But rather than put him to sleep, zookeepers decided to try some unusual techniques to help him fend for himself.
