A veteran of Chicago politics who's been out of the game for a few years is now in the race for mayor. Former U.S. Senator Carol Moseley Braun is running.

Moseley Braun already has a campaign spokeswoman: former TV reporter Renee Furguson. And she has a campaign manager, longtime friend and adviser Billie Paige. And despite no official campaign kickoff yet, Paige says Moseley Braun is in the race, and will start collecting signatures for her nominating petitions later this week.

She'll be easing into politics almost a dozen years after last holding elected office. The first African-American woman elected to the U.S. Senate, Moseley Braun was defeated in 1998. She then served as ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa. More recently, Moseley Braun lost a bid for the 2004 Democratic nomination for president, and started an organic foods company in Chicago.

She joins a mayoral field that includes activist Bill "Dock" Walls and Chicago City Clerk Miguel Del Valle. The list of those considering campaigns includes quite a few aldermen, Cook County officials, and members of Congress.
