Congressman Hoping for Last-Minute Public Option

March 19, 2010

One Chicago congressman says he's concerned his party's health care overhaul bill won't go far enough to cover Americans.

The House is expected to begin debate on the bill Sunday.

Representative Danny Davis says he'll vote "yes" - but he wishes the bill included a national health care system that would cover all U.S. citizens.

DAVIS: It's not the perfect bill.  Nothing generally is.  But if 30 million additional Americans can have access to health insurance, then I'm going to be voting for it.

Davis says there's still room for the bill to include a so-called "public option," which would let people choose government-run insurance. That provision was included in earlier health care bills, but has since been stripped out.
