The leader of boycotting Indiana House Democrats says his meeting with Republican leaders was positive but that a resolution to their weeklong standoff isn't much closer.
House Minority Leader Patrick Bauer drove back from Illinois and met with Speaker Brian Bosma for about 50 minutes Wednesday in the GOP leader's Statehouse office. With reporters watching from the doorways, the leaders talked about the Republican-backed labor- and education-related proposals that Democrats say they've found objectionable.
Bosma said afterward the meeting with Bauer was a positive development. Bosma says, however, he remains firm that no bills would be removed from the House agenda for debate and vote. Bauer said he planned to return to Urbana, Ill., later Wednesday and that it might take "many days" to resolve the boycott.
