State Financial Problems Loom for Quinn

With the Illinois State Senate voting to remove Governor Rod Blagojevich from office—Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn has now taken over the state's top office.

Governor Quinn assumes power at a time when the state faces a long list of problems. With the on-going recession, and a looming budget deficit, one of the biggest problems Quinn has to tackle will be Illinois financial woes.

Laurence Msall is the President of the Civic Federation—one of the state's leading government watchdog organizations. WBEZ's Ben Calhoun spoke with Msall about the state's financial challenges. He started by asking for an overall assessment of Illinois' fiscal health.
