Wis. board to vote on Democratic recalls

The nonpartisan Wisconsin state board that oversees elections is meeting to determine whether three recall elections against Democratic state senators can proceed.
The Government Accountability Board meets Wednesday to consider challenges to the petitions seeking recalls for Sens. Bob Wirch of Pleasant Prairie, Dave Hansen of Green Bay and Jim Holperin of Conover.
Democrats allege there was widespread fraud in the circulating of the petitions and that warrants them being rejected. Government Accountability Board staff prepared a memo Tuesday that outlined the charges, but did not recommend a course of action for the retired judges on the board to take.
The board has already approved recall elections for six Republican senators to take place on July 12. The Democratic recalls would be a week later if approved by the board.
