Chicago’s runoff election takes place on April 5. Voters in 14 wards will head to the polls to decide who they want representing them at City Council. To help with those decisions, Eight Forty-Eight is holding informal debates with some of the candidates.
The idea behind a referendum is to give voters a direct voice in making their community better. These ballot questions can cover anything from stem-cell research to the fate of an empty lot. They may be binding or just advisory. Last month, referenda were on ballots in nine Chicago precincts.
