Irving Park Road follows the general line of a local portage, which is the soggy land between two rivers. So when a park was planned for Irving Park and Central in 1912, it was called Portage Park. That’s also the name of the neighborhood around it, Community Area 15.
Guess the mystery location in this 1922 photo taken on the West Side--in this case, west of the river, between North Avenue and 26th Street. Though there have been some changes made in 90 years, an important clue remains.
