Colombia’s Afro population endures violence and persecution from the country’s numerous armed factions. Ruth Goring, human rights advocate and photojournalist Mike Bracey visited and photographed Afro-Colombian neighborhoods in Colombia. They join us to fulfill their mission to “share the beauty and strength of our Afro-Colombian sisters and brothers through exhibits and presentations in Chicago and beyond."
Nearly 60% of Colombia's millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) are women. Many of these women lost not only their homes, but also their husbands, brothers and sons to ongoing violence. Colombian women have suffered through torture, rape and numerous other abuses.
