One of the country’s oldest outdoor murals covers a storefront on Chicago’s Northwest Side. People who care about the 40-year-old painting are finishing a facelift. The mural restoration is doing more than brightening up a gritty stretch of North Avenue.

DuPage County's board has given the go-ahead for a new Muslim community center to be built, but without a dome to cover its religious worship space.  The Pin Oak Community Center is slated for construction on an unincorporated residential plot near west suburban Lombard.

A group of Muslim organizations in the Chicago area is calling on DuPage County's Board to review its zoning policies, saying they may violate a federal law that protects religious institutions.

Authorities say they've arrested a suburban Chicago man after finding a marijuana growing operation at his home.The DuPage County sheriff's office says 42-year-old Stephen Baker was charged with a felony count of possession or production of cannabis plants.

The Dupage County Board has approved a proposal to build a mosque in unincorporated Willowbrook.Backers of the mosque had been struggling to get their proposal through the Dupage County Board for several months.

 DuPage County has abandoned a bid to keep new places of assembly out of unincorporated residential neighborhoods. That's a major concession to those who feared new churches, mosques, and temples would be frozen out of the very communities they aim to serve.
