SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — An Illinois medicine-monitoring program has joined a national data-sharing network to help prevent prescription drug abuse.The Department of Human Services will link its prescription monitoring program to a National Association of Boards of Pharmacy network.

A social service group for performers is trying to increase the number of dancers with health insurance in Chicago. The Actors Fund says nearly one in every three dancers is uninsured.  

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services is still trying to figure how much state retirees will have to contribute to their health coverage.Gov.

Thursday the Supreme Court voted 4-5 to uphold the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,  which mandates that most Americans get health insurance or pay a penalty. In some ways the U.S. system will now resemble the health care systems of Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and WBEZ blogger Achy Obejas both grew up in and around Michigan City, Ind. After the high court's landmark decision, Obejas writes, "What John Roberts did today was legally correct and constitutionally solid. . . but I also think an act of both courage and decency — both virtues in abundance in our tiny hometown, where everybody knew everybody and helped one another in moments of crisis."
