In honor of Chicago's annual Puerto Rican Parade Eight Forty-Eight did a special live broadcast from Division St., in front of WBEZ's bureau in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. The big parade may take place downtown but all the action is in and around Humboldt Park.
Here’s a follow-up on a video WBEZ has been reporting about. That video, shot March 19, shows a young man in the backseat of a Chicago police SUV. A back door is open and he’s getting taunted by onlookers who flash gang signs — while two officers seem to stand by.
Humboldt Park has undergone big changes over the past decade or so. The neighborhood experienced a development rush starting in the late '90s. That bumped up housing prices and displaced some residents and small businesses.
