When Margaret Burroughs died late last year the arts community lost a giant. Burroughs co-founded the DuSable Museum of African American Art but she was more than a curator and administrator. She was also a teacher and practicing artist.

Many people are still reeling from the death of Margaret Burroughs, the founder of the DuSable Museum of African American History.

Burroughs was a force in Chicago. Even though I never met her, as a South Sider, you're never too far from her touch. My father is on the board of DuSable Museum. I'm in a writers group at the South Side Community Arts Center, which she founded while still in her 20s.

One of the founders of the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago is being remembered fondly today.Margaret Burroughs died at her Chicago home yesterday at the age of 93.
