Long before the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing were identified, some early news reports insinuated that Muslims were responsible. That has prompted one Chicago-area Islamic leader’s call for more Muslims to get involved with shaping media coverage.

They may not always have the visibility of the area’s other ethnic communities, but there are more people of Palestinian descent living in the Chicagoland area than anywhere else in the U.S. 

The DuPage County Board is scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether an incoming mosque may add a minaret and dome to its building plan. MECCA, the Muslim Educational Cultural Center of America, has applied for a conditional use permit to construct a 50-foot high dome and a 60-foot high minaret.
