Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was in a pretty good groove; that was until he broke his thumb. The offense felt balanced, the team was riding a five-game winning streak and the table seemed set for backup quarterback Caleb Hanie. However, the results were mixed.

It might have seemed premature to look at the Bears' playoff picture with nine games left in the season but it was worth a peek after the current wild card scenarios were considered. The next two games were critical; and a couple of wins could make the Bears' ride to January a little less wild.
