Chicago aldermen are still hashing out a compromise on re-drawing ward boundaries.Tuesday the Chicago City Council rules committee is scheduled to meet on changing the city ward map. Aldermanic boundaries are being altered because of changes in population from the most recent census.
Rahm Emanuel and Toni Preckwinkle said Tuesday they could cut costs by possibly merging parts of their governments. The new Chicago mayor-elect and the new-ish Cook County board president stood before cameras to work in the buzz words of the day: collaboration, streamlining, coordination.
The idea behind a referendum is to give voters a direct voice in making their community better. These ballot questions can cover anything from stem-cell research to the fate of an empty lot. They may be binding or just advisory. Last month, referenda were on ballots in nine Chicago precincts.
