Democratic leaders in the Illinois Legislature said Friday that they would try again to pass a pension-reform plan backed by House Speaker Michael Madigan, rejecting a request from Gov. Pat Quinn to form a bipartisan conference committee to solve the state's worst-in-the-nation $97 billion crisis.
Ill. Gov. Pat Quinn is asking lawmakers to approve a plan that has previously stalled in the state senate. He has called legislators back to Springfield next week for a special, one-day session to address pension reform after they adjourned for the summer without sending a bill to the governor’s desk for approval.
