Bosnian-Americans in the Chicago area today welcomed news that longtime war crimes fugitive Ratko Mladic had been captured in Serbia. Mladic is expected to stand trial at the International Criminal Court at the Hague for crimes dating back to when he was a Bosnian-Serb General.
Serbian President Boris Tadic announced Thursday that Europe's most wanted war crimes fugitive Ratko Mladic has been arrested.He said on Tuesday: "On behalf of the Republic of Serbia we announce that Ratko Mladic has been arrested."
Ratko Mladic—thought to be the mastermind of the Srebrenica massacre in 1995—is still on the run. Many suspect he’s hiding in Belgrade. Despite those concerns, the European Union has decided to proceed with Serbia’s membership talks.
