WBEZ | Board of Trade http://www.wbez.org/tags/board-trade Latest from WBEZ Chicago Public Radio en Chicago's huge camera surveillance system to grow http://www.wbez.org/story/chicagos-huge-camera-surveillance-system-grow-87932 <img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://llnw.wbez.org/story/photo/2011-June/2011-06-16/56725747.jpg" alt="" /><p><p>Chicago's massive surveillance camera system - already one of the most extensive in the United States - is about to grow.</p><p>The Chicago Sun-Times reports Mayor Rahm Emanuel at his first meeting of the Public Building Commission agreed with the other commission members that&nbsp; the network of 10,000 public and private cameras should be expanded to include the Board of Trade, the Federal Reserve and the AT&amp;T switching center.</p><p>Emanuel says the sites should be added because they are important to national security, adding it would be relatively simple because much of what is&nbsp; needed to link the sites to the surveillance network is already in place.&nbsp;</p><p>A federal Homeland Security grant will pay the $650,000 for the new cameras.</p></p> Thu, 16 Jun 2011 14:35:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/story/chicagos-huge-camera-surveillance-system-grow-87932
