After weeks of restrained U.S. reaction to Syria’s brutal crackdown on democracy protestors, diplomatic exchanges between the countries are now tense. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “has lost legitimacy” and was “not indispensable.” Some believe this change in tone could indicate a policy shift.
