WBEZ | Polling Place Photo Project http://www.wbez.org/tags/polling-place-photo-project Latest from WBEZ Chicago Public Radio en 5 things you never knew about Danny Gans (other than the fact that he was famous) http://www.wbez.org/agill/2009/05/5-things-you-never-knew-about-danny-gans-other-than-the-fact-that-he-was-famous/3286 <p><a href="/?p=3277">As Justin mentioned</a>, the life and career of Danny Gans has become a source of fascination for some of the City Room since his untimely death last Friday. Having never visited Vegas, I'd never encountered his towering billboards and had no idea who he was. Here, then are 5 things I was surprised to find out about Danny Gans: 1. He was originally a baseball player and was drafted by the Chicago White Sox (it's not clear if he ever played for them or their minor league team). 2. He "acted" in <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094812/" target="blank"><em>Bull Durham</em></a>, playing a third baseman named Deke. 3. He had a recurring role on "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101198/" target="blank">Silk Stalkings</a>" and did voice work for "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096557/" target="blank">Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers</a>" and "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098929/" target="blank">Tiny Toon Adventures</a>." 4. His debut album, <a href="http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&amp;sql=10:dvftxqtkld0e" target="blank"><em>Brand New Dream</em></a>, was produced by Evanston native (and Christopher Cross and Amy Grant producer) Michael Omartian. Gans' music had a similar promotional strategy as Amy Grant- it was sold in Christian bookstores as well as general music stores. 5. In 2007 he was apparently awarded the title of <a href="http://kycolonels.org/" target="blank">Kentucky Colonel</a> (though I can find no record of him having any connection to the Bluegrass State). If that doesn't sate your Gans info-greed, here's an appearance from the Bonnie Hunt Show: <object width="480" height="295" data="http://www.youtube.com/v/dEm7cmqWvPI&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dEm7cmqWvPI&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;rel=0" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /></object></p> Wed, 06 May 2009 14:56:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/agill/2009/05/5-things-you-never-knew-about-danny-gans-other-than-the-fact-that-he-was-famous/3286 Chicago Votes! http://www.wbez.org/agill/2008/11/chicago-votes/657 <p><img class="alignleft" style="border: 1px solid black; margin: 7px; float: left;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3023/3002737663_15f1b21f27_m.jpg" alt="" width="240" height="160" />All reports indicate <a onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.wbez.org/Content.aspx?audioID=29959&amp;referer=http://blogs.vocalo.org/wp-admin/edit.php?s&amp;m=0&amp;cat=104&amp;paged=2');urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.wbez.org/Content.aspx?audioID=29959&amp;referer=http://blogs.vocalo.org/');urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.wbez.org/Content.aspx?audioID=29959&amp;referer=http://blogs.vocalo.org/');urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.wbez.org/Content.aspx?audioID=29959&amp;referer=http://blogs.vocalo.org/');" href="http://www.wbez.org/Content.aspx?audioID=29959">a record turnout in Chicago this election day</a>. Let these two newest additions serve as inspiration: First, the polling place for the 33rd Precinct of the 47th Ward: Berry Memorial Methodist Church at 4754 N Leavitt. This church is in my neighborhood, so I often walk past it. They seem to get good use out of their building- their list of hosted programs on their website include HeadStart day care, an African Community church, Lincoln Square Art Center, La Leche League, the North Side Green Party and the Net and Paddle Table Tennis Club. <img style="border: 1px solid black; margin: 7px; vertical-align: top;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3289/2950573194_1fc86d1939.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="333" /> <!--break--> <img style="border: 1px solid black; margin: 7px; vertical-align: top;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3289/2949717129_1eb557ff8a_m.jpg" alt="" width="160" height="240" /><img style="border: 1px solid black; margin: 7px; vertical-align: top;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3012/2949719537_360ac21d13_m.jpg" alt="" width="160" height="240" /> My other polling place for today is one of the hugest buildings I've found in this project. It's the polling place for the 49th Ward's 7th, 21st and 32nd Precincts, smack in the middle of Loyola's Rogers Park campus, it's the Joseph Gentile Center at 6526 N Winthrop. My information says they only use the first floor foyer, but it could be wise to spread it out and use more of that space that's available to them. <img style="border: 1px solid black; margin: 7px; vertical-align: top;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3291/2950562384_2fece2b70a.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="333" /></p> Tue, 28 Oct 2008 16:53:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/agill/2008/10/polling-place-47w33p-and-49w7p21p32p/643 Polling Place: Arlington Heights Precinct 15 http://www.wbez.org/agill/2008/10/polling-place-arlington-heights-precinct-15/638 <p>Here's another photo <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/harvardavenue/">Harvard Avenue</a>/<a href="http://www.wbez.org/Daily_Photo_Photographers.aspx?photographerID=113">J.
