He also said the board had not been given due process and the school code used for the removal was being selectively applied.</p><p>The order is in effect until another hearing is held. A hearing date was not included in the order.</p><p>Illinois&nbsp;attorney general spokesman Scott Mulford says the office accepts the ruling. There was no school board official available for comment.</p><p>The&nbsp;Illinois&nbsp;State Board of Education last month announced the ousting of the board for chronic academic underperformance.</p></p> Tue, 03 Jul 2012 08:40:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/news/judge-east-st-louis-school-takeover-unconstitutional-100609 East St. Louis district to close 5 schools http://www.wbez.org/news/education/east-st-louis-district-close-5-schools-98201 <p><p>The East St. Louis school system says it will shutter five schools because of declining enrollment and in an effort to pare the district's roughly $12 million budget deficit.</p><p><a href="http://bit.ly/ICHp52">The Belleville <em>News-Democrat</em> reports</a> that the schools will close by June 30. Officials say that, along with related layoffs, could save the district $2.5 million to $3.7 million next school year.</p><p>School board President Lonzo Greenwood says the panel is saddened.
