Her visual art incorporates found objects, exploring how the chaotic processes of time impose individual, aesthetically-charged identity on what were once undifferentiated commodities. Her research focuses on individual and societal thinking about death, particularly how biomedical discourse colludes with social inhibition to constrain deep engagement with mortality. She is the founder and director of the Living Mortal Project, supported by the Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society. Through interview-based research, a collaborative interdisciplinary workshop series, an art exhibition, and a new medical school elective, the Living Mortal Project explores the ways humans negotiate mortality, with the goal of facilitating conversations about death and the end of life.

Clinically her interests are in sickle cell disease, multiple myeloma, and palliative medicine.
