She&rsquo;s not only fighting a Republican challenger, political newcomer Adam Kinzinger; she&rsquo;s fighting history, too. <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Garamond;"><o:p></o:p></span><st1:state w:st="on"><span style="font-family: Garamond;">Illinois</span></st1:state><span style="font-family: Garamond;">&rsquo; 11<sup>th</sup> Congressional district begins just south of <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Chicago</st1:place></st1:city> and stretches westward &ndash; almost to the Quad Cities. The district&rsquo;s southern border is near Bloomington-Normal. For years, the stretch of suburbs, mid-sized cities and farmland has leaned toward the GOP..<o:p></o:p></span><span class="MsoCommentReference"><span style="font-size: 8pt;"><span style=""><br /></span></span></span><span style="font-family: Garamond;">If H<st1:personname w:st="on">al</st1:personname>vorson wins reelection to her second term in Congress, she&rsquo;ll have to do it without financi<st1:personname w:st="on">al</st1:personname> support from the Democratic Congression<st1:personname w:st="on">al</st1:personname> Campaign Committee. <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Garamond;">Besides donating services to H<st1:personname w:st="on">al</st1:personname>vorson&rsquo;s campaign for this race, the committee hasn&rsquo;t given her actu<st1:personname w:st="on">al</st1:personname> cash. <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Garamond;">But H<st1:personname w:st="on">al</st1:personname>vorson says, that&rsquo;s OK. <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Garamond;">&ldquo;We haven&rsquo;t gotten one dollar but I&rsquo;ve never asked for any,&rdquo; H<st1:personname w:st="on">al</st1:personname>vorson told WBEZ.<span style="">&nbsp; </span>&ldquo;We&rsquo;ve completely funded this ourselves; very proud not to have not sought one dollar from the D Triple C (DCCC) or from big business, because that&rsquo;s not who I represent.&rdquo; <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Garamond;">H<st1:personname w:st="on">al</st1:personname>vorson, 52, of Crete, spent part of Thursday afternoon in <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Joliet</st1:place></st1:city> speaking to a group of retired steelworkers. <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Garamond;">Earlier in the day, she was with Gov. Pat Quinn, who announced <st1:state w:st="on">Illinois</st1:state> will receive $32 million in feder<st1:personname w:st="on">al</st1:personname> stimulus funding for one-stop facility for buses and trains in <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Joliet</st1:place></st1:city>. <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Garamond;">The 52-year-old former state senator says she feels momentum is starting to build for her campaign, despite criticism from conservative pundits <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Garamond;">And, a poll released earlier this month by the Hill, a <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Washington</st1:city>, <st1:state w:st="on">D.C.</st1:state></st1:place> newspaper, showed H<st1:personname w:st="on">al</st1:personname>vorson trailing Kinzinger by 18 points. <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Garamond;"><span style="">&nbsp;</span></span><span style="font-family: Garamond;">&ldquo;We&rsquo;re fighting hard.
