Both the Bulls and the Blackhawks could move on to the next round of the playoffs if they win their respective games Tuesday night.

It's winner take all in Vancouver. The Blackhawks and Canucks face off in the seventh and deciding game of their first round series. The defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks have won three straight games to even up the series after losing the first three. Blackhawks' Coach Joel Quenneville says the team has been more relaxed since losing those first three games.

"We've been effective on the road. We got the momentum. We want to sustain it. We want to keep it," Quenneville said after Sunday's overtime win. "We expect a fun building. And I think, like I said, there's no pressure on us from Game 4 on and we got the same approach going into Game 7."

Game time is at 9:00 since it's being played in Vancouver.

The early game is on the hardwood. The Bulls' Derrick Rose is expected to play in tonight's Game 5 against the Indiana Pacers. He has a sprained ankle. The Bulls can wrap up the series if they win.

The game starts at 7:00 on the West Side.

Tue, 26 Apr 2011 10:00:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/story/bulls-blackhawks-could-move-second-round-wins-85653 Blackhawks on verge of being swept out of playoffs http://www.wbez.org/story/brent-seabrook/blackhawks-verge-being-swept-out-playoffs-85320

The reigning Stanley Cup champions are on the verge of being swept out of the NHL playoffs in the first round. Home rink advantage at the United Center wasn't enough for the Chicago Blackhawks. They lost their third game in a row to the Vancouver Canucks, 3-2.

Blackhawks' Coach Joel Quenneville said a turning point in the game happened when Vancouver's Raffi Torres laid out Brent Seabrook and got away with a 2-minute interference call. Quenneville said the refs got the call wrong.

"Brutal. Major. Absolutely," Quenneville said. "They missed it. Could've scored four goals on that play."

Seabrook got up soon after the hit and said he's undergone tests to check for a concussion. Coach Quenneville said, despite the call, the team is still disappointed with its performance.

"We're in an awful spot right now and I don't think you want to look any further than just trying to get something positive going in our direction," he said.

Game four of the best-of-seven series is Tuesday night at the United Center.

Mon, 18 Apr 2011 11:58:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/story/brent-seabrook/blackhawks-verge-being-swept-out-playoffs-85320 Blackhawks seal final playoff spot http://www.wbez.org/story/chicago-blackhawks/blackhawks-seal-final-playoff-spot-85009

The reigning Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks will have a chance to defend their title in the NHL playoffs.

The Blackhawks sealed the last spot in the Western Conference playoffs, but not through their own doing. They lost to the Detroit Red Wings, 4-3, early Sunday.

That put their playoff fate in the hands of the Dallas Stars, who would've taken the eighth seed if they hadn't lost Sunday.

After the Blackhawks' loss, Coach Joel Quenneville told reporters the team's slow start to the season put them in this position.

"It's a rotten spot, you know, with your fingers cross rooting for your season," Quenneville said Sunday.

In the end, the Blackhawks got the help they needed and they'll now be playing the top-ranked Vancouver Canucks in a best-of-seven series. The two teams have developed a heated rivalry over the last few years. Game one is Wednesday evening in Vancouver.

Mon, 11 Apr 2011 11:41:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/story/chicago-blackhawks/blackhawks-seal-final-playoff-spot-85009 Blackhawks coach hospitalized http://www.wbez.org/story/chicago-blackhawks/blackhawks-coach-hospitalized

The Chicago Blackhawks announced Wednesday head coach Joel Quenneville has been hospitalized. Further testing is ongoing and we will provide an update when possible."

Terry said Quenneville felt severe discomfort while at home Tuesday night and went to the emergency room.

Meantime, Blackhawks' Vice President and General Manager Stan Bowman announced assistant coach Mike Haviland will serve as acting head coach.

Wed, 16 Feb 2011 16:52:00 -0600 http://www.wbez.org/story/chicago-blackhawks/blackhawks-coach-hospitalized Blackhawks' Kane out with injury http://www.wbez.org/story/chicago-blackhawks/blackhawks-kane-out-injury

One of the Chicago Blackhawks' star players is out with an injury. Patrick Kane left the first period in Sunday's game against Calgary. The Blackhawks won that game, 4-to-2. Coach Joel Quenneville said Kane's injury isn't too serious, but he'll be out for a little bit.

"Injuries are always something you have to deal with and, of course, last year it's never going to be a perfect season as far as health-wise," Quenneville said. "You get tested. You get challenged. Organizationally, you find out about some people and it'll be something that we're finding out more without Kaner here."

The Blackhawks haven't detailed Kane's injury, only that it happened in his lower body. Kane has 11 goals and 16 assists so far this season.

Mon, 06 Dec 2010 13:03:00 -0600 http://www.wbez.org/story/chicago-blackhawks/blackhawks-kane-out-injury
