Obviously our bloggers are a major part of that, but the area furthest from our natural comfort zone is video.</p><p>It's like going from creating "theater of the mind" to just creating "theater."</p><p>We've taken an experimental approach to our production, trying to add value and avoid merely duplicating the work of our colleagues at Chicago area TV stations.</p><p>Looking over our top videos of the year, that sense of freedom is evident in the broad range of work that found a large audience. Out of 850,000 plays in 2011, these were our ten most popular videos.</p><p>Join me for a stroll down celluloid memory lane...</p><p>10. <a href="http://www.wbez.org/story/education/louder-bomb-high-school-training-ground-85241">Louder Than a Bomb: High School Training Ground</a><br> <iframe allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/22448349?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=b30000" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="600" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p><p>9. <a href="http://www.wbez.org/story/wild-flag-perform-sound-opinions-wbez-studios-93942">Wild Flag perform 'Nothing' on Sound Opinions</a><br> <iframe allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/31868758?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=cc0422" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="600" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p><p>8. <a href="http://www.wbez.org/story/iron-and-wine-perform-wbez-studios-sound-opinions-91700">Iron and Wine perform 'Tree By The River' on Sound Opinions</a><br> <iframe allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/28781783?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=cc0422" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="600" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p><p>7. <a href="http://www.wbez.org/blog/justin-kaufmann/2011-08-29/wikipedia-files-marc-maron-wtf-podcast-91194">Marc Maron fact-checks his Wikipedia File with Justin Kaufmann</a><br> <iframe allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/28308277?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=b30000" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="600" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p><p>6. <a href="http://www.wbez.org/blog/city-room-blog/2011-03-22/video-questionable-police-tactics-caught-tape-84086">Chicago Police engage in questionable tactics</a><br> <iframe allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/21441880?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=b30000" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="600" frameborder="0" height="403"></iframe></p><p>5. <a href="http://www.wbez.org/blog/city-room-blog/2011-03-22/video-questionable-police-tactics-caught-tape-84086">The CityRoom: YouTube video of Chicago Police</a><br> <iframe allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/21360319?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=b30000" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="600" frameborder="0" height="398"></iframe></p><p>4. <a href="http://www.wbez.org/blog/city-room-blog/2011-11-03/occupy-protesters-heckle-wisconsin-gov-scott-walker-chicago-93719">Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker heckled at Chicago's Union League Club</a><br> <iframe allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/31546993?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=b30000" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="600" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p><p>3. <a href="http://www.wbez.org/story/arcade-fire-premiere-new-arrangements-sprawl-ii-and-we-used-wait-sound-opinions-87939">Arcade Fire performs "We Used To Wait" on Sound Opinions</a><br> <iframe allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/25189599?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=cc0422" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="600" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p><p>2. <a href="http://www.wbez.org/story/arcade-fire-premiere-new-arrangements-sprawl-ii-and-we-used-wait-sound-opinions-87939">Arcade Fire perform "Sprawl II" on Sound Opinions</a><br> <iframe allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/25156313?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=cc0422" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="600" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p><p>1. <a href="http://www.wbez.org/blog/justin-kaufmann/2011-04-01/opening-day-video-chicagos-1-cubs-fan-or-least-drunkest-84624">Opening Day: The Cubs biggest fan</a><br> <iframe allowfullscreen="" mozallowfullscreen="" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/21819920?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=b30000" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="600" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p></p> Wed, 21 Dec 2011 21:34:00 -0600 http://www.wbez.org/blog/city-room-blog/2011-12-21/top-10-most-viewed-videos-2011-95090 Ethics Moment: Life in the lonely city http://www.wbez.org/blog/city-room-blog/2011-10-21/ethics-moment-life-lonely-city-93369 <img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://llnw.wbez.org/blog/photo/2011-October/2011-10-21/6039230690_aec1410472(2).jpg" alt="" /><p><p>Walk the streets of downtown Chicago these days and you&#39;ll see them.&nbsp; It's easy to see why: The African-influenced funk on her latest album, <em>w h o k i l l, </em>is catchy enough to make curmudgeons overlook her eccentric typesetting and get down on the dance floor.</p><p><em>Sound Opinions</em> was so keen on tUnE-yArDs that they invited Garbus and her band in for a session the next time they passed through Chicago. There, Garbus and company performed four songs from<em> w h o k i l l</em> and deconstructed their live-sampling magic.</p><p>Garbus returns to Chicago Friday to perform at the Pitchfork Music Festival.</p><p><a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/wbezs-live-music-thursday/id385754389">Subscribe to the Live Music Thursday podcast for this video</a>.</p><p><strong>"Gangsta"</strong><br> <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/26446565?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=ff0000" width="601" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p><p><strong>"Bizness"</strong><br> <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/26435338?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=cc0422" width="601" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p><p><strong>"Doorstep"</strong><br> <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/26442444?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=cc0422" width="601" frameborder="0" height="338"></iframe></p></p> Thu, 14 Jul 2011 20:10:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/content/video-tune-yards-break-down-their-songs-sound-opinions Video: Coach Kaufmann gives WBEZ All-staff pep talk http://www.wbez.org/blog/justin-kaufmann/2011-07-13/video-coach-kaufmann-gives-wbez-all-staff-pep-talk-89110 <img typeof="foaf:Image" src="http://llnw.wbez.org/blog/photo/2011-July/2011-07-13/thumb.jpg" alt="" /><p><p>If you haven't been following, WBEZ is playing in a softball league.
