Carrane hosted the comical, partly improvised, show-within-a-show
Studio 312, which aired on Eight Forty-Eight. He now has a new show, Improv Nerd with Jimmy Carrane. The live interview format heads into what could be considered its second season this Saturday at the Skybox Theater at Second City in Chicago. The show starts at 9:00 p.m., and Carrane will talk with Mick Napier founder and artistic director of Chicago’s Annoyance Theatre. Eight Forty-Eight talked with Carrane earlier this fall.

Tue, 06 Dec 2011 15:08:00 -0600 http://www.wbez.org/episode-segments/2011-12-06/improv-nerd-jimmy-carrane-gets-chatty-second-city-94640 Jane Lynch wins an Emmy- was it Studio 312 that propelled her to these heights? http://www.wbez.org/blog/jane-lynch-wins-emmy-was-it-studio-312-propelled-her-these-heights

Last night Jane Lynch won the Emmy for Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her role as Sue Sylvester on Glee. When Cheers was on television I was a student at Columbia College here in the city, but I was living at home in the suburbs with my parents, my two sisters and maybe my younger brother Mike (my brother Mike was unreachable at the writing of this blog). I'd also just started taking improv classes at The Players Workshop of The Second City. My goal in life was to be George Wendt, start at Second City and wind up a lovable character on a classic TV show. I've interviewed a lot of people down in Studio 312 over the years, and some can be self important. A few, however, are down to earth and as nice as the neighborhood they came from. George Wendt is one of the nice ones. To hear the interview sign up for the Studio 312 podcast. I promise I did a better job than Billy Dec does here: Thanks for listening and remember as always, walk don't run.
Thu, 05 Nov 2009 11:33:00 -0600 http://www.wbez.org/blog/studio-312-welcomes-george-wendt Video: Studio 312 is now available as a podcast! http://www.wbez.org/agill/2009/10/video-studio-312-is-now-available-as-a-podcast/6619
Jimmy Carrane and Studio 312 are now available as a podcast. So here it is after the jump:
Q1: Who do you hope to reach by podacsting?

A: The troops. I did it for the troops. ( trying to fake cry)

Follow up: what troops?

A: The Troops plural. All the troops around the world who are fighting for freedom, democracy and petroleum products.

Q2: Some people say with the podcast that you could become a bigger jerk than you already are. What's your response to this?

A: Don't listen to everything Jerome McDonald says.... or Steve Edmonds.....or Allison Cuddy....

Listen to the people who matter: the fans. If the listeners say I an jerk then it would be something I'd be worried about. Not if Andrew Gill ask me a baited question that obviously came from management. How does it feel to be someone's puppet?

Follow Up: Recently, you where approached in a restaurant by some fans who found you rude. Do you care to comment?

A: First, get your facts straight - it was Boston Market. Everyone knows Boston Market is not a restaurant.

Another Follow up: What is it?

A: It's a chain. And secondly, a restaurant (as you called it) is a public place and this is not a fair place to be approached by the people. Public places are supposed to be an oasis for us in the public eye. Also, isn't the whole point of going out to eat to be a jerk?‚ You're expected you to be demanding, boss the staff around and take your day out on them. The food is secondary, the right to be a jerk is what you are paying for. If you don't act like a jerk you might as well stay at home and eat. If those alleged fans had approached me at my home when I was eating they would see a whole different side of me. Way to ambush me with that question.

Q3: How is the Studio 312 podcast going to be different than what we hear on 848?

A: They will be slightly longer and have some juicy stuff that may not have made it on 848 because of time. We also have traffic on the sevens and live music guests.

Q4: Recently "Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me!" host Peter Sagal's bike was stolen from the station, some say you might have taken it or that you might know who took it. Is there any truth to this rumor?

A: This is the kind of pettiness that goes on in public radio, when something is stolen they are so quick to come to me or my Uncle and accuse of us taking it. Well, the other part of the story never gets told, and that part is that after speaking to us they seem to get it back fairly quickly.

Q5: What's next for Jimmy Carrane and Studio 312?

A: Hopefully I won't get you in this year's holiday gift exchange. I don't need another calendar.

Thu, 08 Oct 2009 14:44:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/agill/2009/10/video-studio-312-is-now-available-as-a-podcast/6619 5 Questions with a guy who was in Public Enemies (Ok, it's Jimmy Carrane) http://www.wbez.org/agill/2009/07/5-questions-with-a-guy-who-was-in-public-enemies-ok-its-jimmy-carrane-2/8056
If you've seen Public Enemies, you've seen Studio 312 host Jimmy Carrane flex his acting muscles. Remember the scene when Dillinger is locked up in Crown Point, Indiana? Remember the janitor who Dillinger tricks into letting him out of his cell? That's Jimmy (if you're checking IMDB look for "Jim Carrane")! Jimmy was here a few days ago to tape a new Studio 312 segment for Eight Forty-Eight, so I took the opportunity to ask him about his experience in the film. He touched on how intimidating Michael Mann is, what constitutes a "line" of dialogue and his hope for a Public Enemies 2. audio
Fri, 17 Jul 2009 13:34:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/agill/2009/07/5-questions-with-a-guy-who-was-in-public-enemies-ok-its-jimmy-carrane-2/8056 Jimmy Carrane interviews Andy Dick http://www.wbez.org/jkaufmann/2009/03/jimmy-carrane-interviews-andy-dick/2290
Thanks to everyone who pledged their support to Chicago Public Radio this past drive. We made our goal. It's bittersweet because when pledge drive comes around, everyone wants to help out with video bits and fun projects for the blog. When it's over, the staff retreats into curmudgeon-ville. So watch closely as I attempt to pry them from their work in the next few weeks. Because remember, in my mind - it's pledge drive every day. We have a ton of stories lined up this week. We will also be introducing a new contributor! He's very annoying. JIMMY CARRANE AND ANDY DICK = 1993? Jimmy Carrane had Andy Dick on his show-within-a-show "Studio 312". It's really great to have Jimmy and this show because many probably know this but Jimmy was a big player at the Annoyance Theater back in the 90's. So he knows all these comedy cats personally. That's the great thing about a lot of our contributors, they've made great in-roads in their respective fields and now are sharing that with us. Jimmy should be in Hollywood, struggling to make it. But instead he struggles to make radio here. Wait...that came out wrong. Here's a great little video gem of Jimmy back in the day with some comedy notables.
Mon, 23 Mar 2009 10:48:00 -0500 http://www.wbez.org/jkaufmann/2009/03/jimmy-carrane-interviews-andy-dick/2290 Studio 312 New Year's Day Special: Jimmy Carrane's gift to heal the world http://www.wbez.org/jcarrane/2008/12/studio-312-new-years-day-special-jimmy-carranes-gift-to-heal-the-world-2/7926
A note to all my listeners, fans, and creditors.
