Aurora Aguilar is the project editor of Front and Center, a regional reporting hub that is focused on in-depth coverage of issues impacting the Great Lakes region.

Aurora joined the staff of WBEZ in July 2002 as an associate editor for Eight Forty-Eight, WBEZ’s weekday morning newsmagazine. She was promoted to senior producer of Eight Forty-Eight in 2005 and left in 2011 to oversee production and editing of the immersion series, Out of the Shadows.

Aurora has received numerous awards for exceptional writing, editing and production. They include several James Lisagor, Associated Press, National Headliner, National Association of Black Journalists and Edward R.Murrow Regional awards. She's also received recognition from the Scripps Howard Foundation and in 2011, Aurora edited a series that won the James Beard Award for culinary reporting. Out of the Shadows, her project about children with mental illness earned her and her reporting team an award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness. 

Prior to joining WBEZ, Aurora worked as a staff writer at the Daily Herald, covering city government, crime, community and courts. She has also written for the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority and Echo magazine.

Aurora has a B.A. in Journalism from Columbia College, Chicago.

A native of Chicago, Aurora resides in the Pilsen neighborhood with her husband, Evan.
