With more and more American's just trying to get by, let alone get rich, is America’s reputation as the 'Land of Opportunity' being tarnished? This fall, Front & Center's newest series will look at how policies and people are shaping the new American Dream.

For Front and Center, Michigan Radio’s Jenn White hosted a one-hour show on June 13 exploring the ways in which low-literacy can affect an American’s civic participation.

For Front and Center, Wisconsin Public Radio’s Veronica Rueckert will host a one-hour show exploring the culture of literacy in the Great Lakes region on June 12th at 10 a.m. CST.

Richard Steele hosts the first of three one-hour specials for Front & Center. He’ll discuss the practice of code-switching, or using Ebonics, Spanglish, Taglish (Tagalog/English) or other ethnic-based languages and its effect on credibility in school and the workplace.

The International Reading Association supports literacy professionals around the world. Front and Center attended their annual conference and talked to teachers about literacy in their organizations and classrooms.
