As WBEZ's Production Director, Heidi is not only the "Voice of WBEZ" but is responsible for the daily production, recording and scheduling of on-air announcements and station promos. She has produced for election coverage, live music festivals, holiday programming, Chicago Matters, and has filed for NPR. She also currently fills in as midday host.
Heidi joined the staff of WBEZ in September 1987 as a reporter for the program Airplay, later becoming a producer for various programs, including One Flight Up, Speaking of Health and Medicine, The Mara Tapp Show and Artistic License.
She was the long-time host for Morning Edition, as well as for the weekends. Heidi has received many awards for her work, including an Illinois Associated Press award, Lisagor Award and Public Radio News Directors, Inc. (PRNDI) award. She has also received a Chicago Emmy.
Prior to joining WBEZ, Heidi worked as an associate producer at WTTW-TV1, a news writer at WMAQ Radio and an announcer/host of Voice of Israel. Heidi has an M.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Heidi resides in Evanston with her husband and two, red-headed children.
