Jennifer Brandel

Jennifer Brandel is the Founder + Senior Producer of Curious City. She created Curious City in 2012 after being chosen as one of 10 productions to form the Localore initiative of the Association of Independents in Radio.  

Jennifer began working her way around WBEZ in 2006 as an independent reporter/producer and filling in as a general assignment reporting in 2011. Her radio work has aired on national programs including All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Latino USA, Day to Day, Interfaith Voices, Love + Radio and WireTap.  

Jennifer also dabbles in photography and has published work in The New York Times online, Vice Magazine and Mule Magazine.

Prior to officially joining WBEZ, Jennifer started a women’s workout happening called Dance Dance Party Party, managed the 2010 Third Coast International Audio Festival Conference, and worked a variety of odd jobs including shooting music videos, holistic healing, ghost-writing for exotic dancers and the late John Hughes, developing psychometric tests and grape picking in Tasmania.

Jennifer has a B.A. in Art History and a certificate in Integrated Liberal Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and studied abroad at the University of Melbourne.

Originally from the Northwest Suburb of Lake Zurich, Jennifer lives in Uptown with her husband, Aaron Wickenden and meshuggeneh mutt, Mavis.
