As the local midday host and news anchor, Mariam provides local and national news coverage during the BBC Newshour, Fresh Air, World View and Here & Now.
When she's not on-air, Mariam also reports and produces daily news spots and features for WBEZ and has had some pieces air nationally on NPR.
Mariam first joined the staff of WBEZ as an intern and general assigment reporter in 2005 and several months into her internship was hired as a political reporter for the Illinois Radio Network. During her time at IRN she covered the entire trial of former Illinois Governor George Ryan and the initial stages of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's trial.
Mariam then joined Navteq traffic (now known as Nokia L&C) where she worked as a fill-in news and traffic reporter for Chicago stations WCPT and WILV as well as a traffic editor.
Mariam returned to WBEZ in 2012 to produce election coverage and was hired shortly after as the local midday host and news anchor.
Before Mariam's journey to Chicago she worked in Urbana, Illinois fulfilling a variety of roles including; news director and dj at WGPU 107.1, reporter and news anchor for University television station UI-7 News and local Weekend Edition host for WILL AM 580.
Mariam is fluent in Arabic and holds a B.A. in Speech Communication and an M.S. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Illinois.
When she's not working, Mariam runs a lifestyle blog, takes improv classes, and picks up voice over and acting gigs whenever they pop up.
