Wolf Recovering From Loss of Leg

SHARE Wolf Recovering From Loss of Leg

A wolf that mysteriously lost its leg earlier this week at Brookfield Zoo is now recovering nicely.

A team of workers are still searching the nearly one-acre enclosure for the missing limb.

The zoo’s veterinary director Tom Meehan says the leg was broken off cleanly below the knee, and they’re not sure what happened.

""It’s not as simple as a fight and a bite wound,"" he says. ""There’s something more complicated there, and that’s why we’re looking at the enclosure and everything in the enclosure, as well as the limb itself.""

A zoo pathologist is trying to determine what could have caused the break.

Meehan says he expects the wolf will return to the enclosure in about a week. “
