Exelon Insists Auction Request Was Legal

SHARE Exelon Insists Auction Request Was Legal

“Officials with the Exelon utility giant say they did not break any laws by meeting with federal energy commissioners before they approved a controversial electricity auction.

On Tuesday, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed papers claiming Exelon officials met illegally with members of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission or FERC.

Exelon’s spokesperson Jennifer Medley says Madigan’s allegations are just wrong. ""The Attorney General’s claims about our interactions with FERC are frivilous. Our dealings with FERC are legal and appropriate.""

Madigan wants the federal energy commission to void the electricity auction that it approved in December. That auction is expected to raise electricity rates for Illinois customers.

The energy commission says it is legal, and even commonplace, for its members to meet with utility executives. “
