Cook County Board Winner Still Unknown

SHARE Cook County Board Winner Still Unknown

If you thought the race for Cook County Board president couldn’t get any stranger, it has now.

Primary election night ended with supporters of incumbent John Stroger unsure about his health or the election’s outcome.

Campaign workers say Stroger’s stroke took a toll on their spirits, but election night made things worse.

Troubles with voting machines led to accusations of fraud from the Stroger camp and from his opponent Commissioner Forrest Claypool.

Well past midnight, nearly 50 percent of the votes had yet to be counted.

Stroger supporter State Sen. Donne E. Trotter says despite accusations from the Claypool camp, it was Stroger voters in predominantly black wards that remained uncounted.

So after waiting to see about Stroger’s health, both campaigns still have to wait to see who’s the winner.

Cook County election officials say they’ll count the rest of the votes this afternoon.
