Ochoa to Head McPier

SHARE Ochoa to Head McPier

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has appointed a business leader and political friend as the new head of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority. The Authority is also called McPier, because it oversees McCormick Place and the tourist-magnet Navy Pier.

Blagojevich just has picked Juan Ochoa to run it after the former head resigned last week.

Most recently, the 36-year-old Ochoa has chaired the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He’s also been a key supporter of Blagojevich. Ochoa has given personally to the governor’s campaign fund. Under his leadership, the political arm of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has donated significantly to the governor.

Through its management of the convention center and the pier, McPier handles millions of dollars in state business.
