Federal Terrorism Trial Winds Up

SHARE Federal Terrorism Trial Winds Up

Muslim supporters of Muhammad Salah yesterday packed a Chicago courtroom. Salah is on trial for supporting terrorism and his defense attorneys called the last witness in the trial.

Dr. Metin Basoglu has conducted research into the psychological effects of torture. He gave the jury a psychological explanation for why torture victims sometimes choose to give false confessions.

Much of the government’s case against Salah rests on admissions he made to Israeli authorities in 1993. Defense attorneys argue the statements were the result of a torturous, 54 day interrogation.

Prosecutors declined to cross examine Basoglu.

Closing arguments in the case are scheduled to begin Monday.
