Thousands of immigrants and their supporters gathered in Union Park on Chicago’s West Side this morning in the first step of a march for immigration reform.

The mood was festive and upbeat.

But some marchers say an increase in deportations has scared some protesters off. Chicago Public Radio’s Catrin Einhorn was with the marchers as they stepped off from Union Park on their way to the central rally in Grant Park on Chicago’s lakefront.

She reports live from Union Park.
