Frango Operations Could Return to Chicago

SHARE Frango Operations Could Return to Chicago

The nation’s candy capital may soon get its signature chocolate mints back.

Macy’s is working on a deal that would move some of its Frango manufacturing operations back to Chicago.

Jennnifer McNamara is a spokesperson for Macy’s.

MCNAMARA: Macy’s is committed to honoring the Frango tradition in Chicago and preserving the tradition as well. Plans are still being finalized, but we hope to have some positive news to share soon.

She says they could have a formal announcement in the coming weeks.

Chicago-based Marshall Field’s manufactured the mints for seven decades. Its former parent company caused an uproar among Chicagoans when it outsourced operations in 1999.

Macy’s started manufacturing and distributing the mints when it took over Marshall Field’s stores last year.
