Lombard Bids Farewell to Historic Theater

SHARE Lombard Bids Farewell to Historic Theater

Preservationists lost their final appeal to save the historic DuPage Theatre yesterday.

Demolition crews set to work tearing down the 79-year old Lombard movie house shortly after a restraining order protecting it expired.

Deb Dynako led a group of residents who fought for years to preserve the landmark. She says the theater was what made the village unique.

DYNAKO: I’m actually hoping that the DuPage Theatre will become a wake up call. It’s a watershed moment for Lombard. What sort of town do you want this to be? Do you want it to be a town that people just drive through?

Dynako says the village needs an arts and culture center. She hopes a new one will be built on the downtown site.

The theater had been empty for years.
